Voigt Wins individual Time Trial

[17.08 16:47] Jens Voigt increased his overall lead in the Deutschland Tour on Friday, when the German Team CSC-rider won the 33.1-kilometre individual time trial with start and finish in Fürth. This means it looks as though Voigt is going to copy team mate Kurt-Asle Arvesen's performance in the Tour of Denmark: on Saturday Voigt could become the first rider ever to win the Deutschland Tour twice.

Jens Voigt finished nearly 15 seconds in front of Crédit Agricole's Laszlo Bodrogi, who came in second in the stage. The next best Team CSC-rider was Bobby Julich in ninth place, 50 seconds behind his team mate.

Young Chris Anker Sørensen's ambition before the stage was to keep his place in the overall top ten, and he managed this in fine style, because he finished the stage in 39th place exactly 3 minutes behind Voigt. He had quite a bit more than three minutes to play with and still keep his tenth place, so his goal was met with a big margin – so big that he is now in sixth place overall.

"It was a really good day for the team," concluded sports director Kim Andersen and went on: "Jens road a fantastic stage. We could see quite early on that his times were really good, so I kept shouting to him that he could win the stage, and you know what Jens is like: he just goes for it. But Chris Anker also did exceptionally well, finishing with such a good time. After all, he's only been a professional for half a year, yet ends up in sixth place in one of the very biggest ProTour races. That is fantastic. Bobby Julich also rode into the top ten in this stage, which means we have easily defended our lead in the team competition."
