I'm looking forward to see the mountain stages in Tour of Deutschland. It will be even more interesting to see what Ullrich can do in Tour de Suisse. One think that speaks for Ullrich in TDF is that the mountainstages is coming late this year and that means Ullrich has time to loose wven more weigth!

It seems Ullrich is kind of master to find a good shape! But I just think how good he really gould be if he was fit already in April and don't have to do this fight of loosing weight every year?

I think we will get a lot of answers in Dauphin Libere. There will Iban Mayo, Tyler Hamilton, Roberto Heras and Lance Armstrong face each other. I can imagine that the ITT upward Mount Ventoux will be exciting. The one who wins that race probably has a little psycological advantage. I think Mayo will be even better in this years TDF than last year!

Maybe he wasnt in such a bad shape afterall. There seems to be a phycological war going on between the big contenders! It will a very exiting TDF this year when the going gets tough

It is Armstrong's tour to lose...only bad tactics or injury or illness will prevent him from winning his 6th in a row.

but let there be an opening, and i think there are about 4 or 5 others among the team leaders who could take it.

armstrong is in fine form and focused as always...

I agree with you theEagle.. Armstrong is the strongest guy in the peloton and he'll win his 6th TDF victory..!

I admitted that Arm was a little "dizzy" last year - but he did win anyway. He had some personal pobs. Thats why he seemed almost human in 2003. But as i said - this summer he will be in mega-shape.

Furthermore, everyone would like to win Alpe D'Huez so Armstrong just don't let people fly away...

We also saw that Vino really challanged Armstrong in the mountains with his constantly attacks. Unfortunately Beloki got injured but he showed in his attacks that was a huge threat.

I saw all that too, but as I said - with Armstrong nothing is left to the coincidences - he is icecold and calculating - and if Armstrong didnt think he could take the seconds back in the ITT he would have gone after the attackers. Hes the strongest in the peloton.

I really cant agree with You, when you say that some of the mentioned riders can leave Armstrong behind in the mountains. If thats the thruth then why havent they done it the last 5 years?
Armstrong is strong in ITT and he ceartainly the strongest overall mountainrider in the TDF the last 5 years. Well its correct that others have been allowed to go for a big win at some of the great mountain stages, but only if they werent a threat to Lance in the general classement. And this year he will be back much sharper than 2003 where he had a lot of problems with his marriage. Thats out of his mind now. The only thing on his mind is to take the 6. victory in TDF.

Ch1mpy:

I actually agree with you in this topic (Swedes sticks together). I think there are several guys that are able to follow Armstrong in the mountains and even leave him behind (Heras, Mayo, Vino) but the cruscial point for the other challangers is to keep track in the ITT and TTT. There is Armstrongs strength! There are not many that can challange him in a flat TT over 60km...Actually just a few like Ullrich, Millar, Botero (in his best moments) and Aitor Gonzalez.
Ch1mpy Posted - 28/04/2004 : 20:09:56
There will be more people than ever that will/might be able to follow him in the mountains.

Beloki, Ullrich, Mayo, Hamilton - under the correct circumstances every one of these will be able to follow Armstrong over any peak. Add to this list riders like Vino or Heras who can add even more excitement to the touhest stages in this years tour.

I hardly see which manager leave a rider out which can win a stage in TDF. For the 60km ITT I think there a few guys who can win that stage and Ullrich is one of them among with Armstrong and Millar. The rest I think are too poor in long TT-riding.

But I think we will get an answer in Tour of Germany and Tour of Switzerland. But I put my money that Ullrich is on the starting line in TDF.

I think Botero could have a chance of winning if he gets in the same shape as 2 years ago. Doubt he will. Gerolsteiner have a few guys who could do it. I don't remember his name, but he won GP de Nations 2 yeras ago. Hamilton can win it.

Please...Hamilton will not win tdf. Perhaps he will end up in top 5. But nobody can beat Armstrong this year. Im very sure about that. If anyone should beat him it will be Ullrich - but at the moment it looks like hes no danger!
